Penguin mecha sketches
about 2 years ago – Tue, Feb 22, 2022 at 01:11:25 PM

Hello friends,

During our LIVE AMA video (in case you missed it, here's a link), Reinis Pētersons, the illustrator of Iron Forest, drew 3 different penguin mecha sketches and we have a stretch goal in mind that would have a scenario and game mode that uses a penguin mecha.

If it was unlocked, which mecha would you like to see in that scenario? To vote, just comment which is your favorite sketch (A, B or C).

P.S. What other animals would you like to see as mechas?

P.P.S

You all are doing a fantastic job on social stretch goals, and we will post an update on that tomorrow. Thank you so much you all are fantastic!

Help Iron Forest mechas to conquer social networks!
about 2 years ago – Sat, Feb 19, 2022 at 01:23:55 AM

Hello friends,

We have been going through your suggestions for stretch goals (a massive thanks to every single one of you!), and we decided to combine some of them into social stretch goals where you, as someone who has already backed the project, can help out and in return unlock all the extras.

Check them out and let's conquer the social networks together!

And just in case here are the links to IG, YT and BGG:

From tubes to catapult: the great history of the launcher.
about 2 years ago – Tue, Feb 15, 2022 at 05:06:51 PM

Launcher: the component that has transformed the most.

Of all the components that come in the Iron Forest box,  launcher has to be the piece that captures the attention of most players when they first crack open the game. And it’s with good reason - it’s a device that lets you shoot your mechas high into the air with ease, and with only a little practice it will allow you to pull off some shots with incredible precision! However, the design wasn’t always the catapult-style so here’s a brief history of the launcher.

At the beginning of the development we wanted to incorporate the launcher into the game board itself. But there was little freedom when it came to where your mechas would end up.

The very first launcher back in 2019

We needed something more mobile, and so the next version of the launcher was born.

Launcher that travelled many game Expos between 2019 and 2021

Slam the lever, the mecha zooms up through the pipe, and when it hits the cap, the angle would affect how far the mecha would go. Experienced players were fine with this, but those who playtested Iron Forest for the first time, found it a massive barrier to accessibility. And since we wanted to make the game as accessible as possible, this launcher did not work.

Sometimes you need to take a lead or inspiration from somewhere else and in our case it was the excellent dexterity game Coconuts. Inspired by its monkey, the design team got to work building a brand new version of the launcher and… well, it was perfect.
